hello again.

so i figured i've been so away from blogging, busy with life and stuff, sometimes (okay most times), i feel out of touch with the things that have made my life substantial.  i suppose it all is a part of "stages" in life.  we all kind of move from one "stage" to another.  and to avoid being too long winded, i wanted to revisit this blog.  didn't realize xanga's all changed, personally a bit over-stimulating for me; i opted for the "old version."

so anyways, i would like to share my life, once again, in a different stage, through one of my current favorite hobbies -- EATING!  and this, i do a lot of.   it's also a great way to share everything that is fantastic about chicago as well.

so my first entry, is a twist on a chicago favorite.. THE HOTDOG! but don't be fooled, even a hot dog can be made gourmet.  i was first introduced to this hot dog stand by a friend of a friend. and unlike the many others in the city who choose to set up shop in the middle of downtown, where tourists can flock -- hot doug's is located just far enough northwest of downtown to be exclusive.

The owner and "executive chef" is doug sohn, a local chef who went to culinary school in chicago. he is the sole order taker and if he is sick or on vacation, the joint shuts down.  this past winter, as the weather was reaching down to the 30's, i was one of the many dedicated who stood out the door, winding around the building, waiting patiently for my opportunity to taste one of his gourmet dogs.. here's a sampling

(L) The crowd outside (note snow on the ground).
(R) Ribeye Steak Sausage with Horseradish-Garlic Cream Sauce, Smoked Cheddar Cheese and Crispy Fried Onions

Thai chicken sausage with thai peanut sauce topped with coconut and black sesame seeds

AND to top all of this goodness off, Doug offers duck-fat fried fries every Fri and Sat.
